The Touch of Handwritten Note

When I asked people how they feel about receiving handwritten notes, cards, letters et al; these were a few responses:

  • A letter is always more beautiful. It makes me feel more special. Because a pen is an extension of your hand. It has the sense of 'touch' (one of the 5 basic senses) involved in it. It is not mechanical, it takes effort. It does not come with an undo button, so it takes thought too. That makes it more genuine. And mankind, for all its genius, is still a sucker for genuinity. If a girl writes me a letter, even better.
  • I feel that the person who has written it has genuine feelings towards me to put in that effort to sit and write a letter or note to me its an informal way of showing love and care. Mail etc. becomes too formal and professional but letters show the emotional attachment towards that person.
  • When I get a personal text message I feel happy. It brightens up a period of my day. OH an I love e-mails. One day of reading and re-reading. But a letter is something else. I love it when I come home and see it on the small pike of mail. There's something about opening the enveloping and smelling it and feeling the ink on the paper and sensing the scrawl. It's stupid but I go into a trance. A letter can keep me occupied for a long long time.
  • It would be really great if someone in today's tech era did that. It makes you wonder how fast the traditional way has vanished. I think it will feel really personal and there is a lot that you can make out from one's handwriting.
  • Receiving a hand written letter/card etc. seems more appealing. It can tell the exact feelings of the sender while he/she was writing that letter or card. Plus it signifies how much the sender values you when he/she puts all the effort thinking and writing each word by hand. Hand written letters /cards/notes, for me, are like priceless collectables. I've given many to some special ppl n also received some from others as well. Emails or text on the other hand don't have that much impact as compared to handwritten things.
  • I believe that emotion is directly linked to the difficulty in performing a task and the degree of customization . In case of a personal handwritten letter, both these factors kick in for me. If the purpose if solely to communicate formal information either of the two is indifferent on an emotional level while the former method (writing e-mails) seems to save time.
  • I'm a traditional girl. I prefer ink on paper. A cute little greeting card with pink flowers painted on the corners, a tiny note scribbled on a tiny piece of paper in their own handwriting, It feels more personal, makes me feel treasured. Makes me feel important enough for that person to spend so some time making a card or writing a note themselves when they could've just dropped in an email or a text.
  • I always like the touch and feel factor that paper letters/cards give. They are more memorable and feel more personalized. It actually feels like somebody made that effort to write something on paper. And sometimes when you randomly find these old papers like maybe hand written chits or something, they make you feel happy
  • Handwritten is more personal and gives a feeling of belongingness. You would want to preserve the letter or so for remembrance.
  • It would feel great if someone will send me a card , a letter, or a note as it will show his love towards me. Like his/her words will express what he /she is thinking me. Show his/her affection towards me.
